TG33-SY22 Doc 16 June 1992
****************************************************************************
Changes made to the TG33 Multi-Bank settings
****************************************************************************
WELCOME to a DMCS MIDI score for Yamaha TG33 and SY22.
This score has been arranged primarily for the Yamaha TG33 Tone
Generator, but is compatible with the Yamaha SY22 Keyboard,
therefore, needing no or few adjustments toward instrument selection
settings. Yamaha PSR keyboards are compatible with the percussion
tracks (normally).
The SY22 and TG33 sound capabilities are the same; however, voice
NAMES may be different. DEAN will provide TG33 names on scores
written primarily for the TG33, and will try to provide TG33 names
for those scores developed on the SY22 for those who have the TG33.
We are currently working on new scores for the SY22/TG33/PSR series,
and will upload them to GEnie as soon as we are sure they are ready.
HOWEVER.....
This score may have been posted previously for another keyboard/ tone
generator / midi format, but since we three have been collaborating
with each other, and now have the same equipment, we thought those of
you who also own the SY22/TG33, would like to hear some of the old
scores as they would be enhanced by these excellent music machines.
Any score re-arranged by us for the SY22/TG33 will carry the credits
of the person(s) who originally uploaded/arranged the score (if
the info is available). We do not wish to take credit for others'
works, only for the re-arrangement for our particular machines.
Look for other Eiker/Schold/Pace scores under the keywords: SY22 or TG33
We will release some new SY22/TG33 arrangements of our best old scores,
but will continue to try and release new music you want to hear.
***PERCUSSION NOTE***
Dean Schold has found out that the YAMAHA PSR Series keyboards
are able to play SY22/TG33 percussion tracks as they are written
on the score. You may have to change your channel, as we basically
use channel 8 for the Drum Kit. Other presets (instruments) will
in all likelihood need to be changed.
Feburary 17, 1992 :
Dean will leave Percussion information at the bottom of the scores
in which he has written a percussion track. This info is provided
for those who do not have SY22/TG33/PSR compatability to our scores,
but would like the information so they may convert it to their synths.
March 2, 1992 :
You may have noticed on more than one of our scores, we have used
more than 1 instrument per channel. Occasionally we are forced to do this
as we may end up using more than 8 instruments, or may have to use 1
instrument in 2 or more measures. We do not like to go over channel 8
in our work, as we would have to reset our synths, and also, DMCS, at
present, limits all scores to only 8 staves. If you can't get the job
job done in 8 channels, it's time to get a new piece of music!
************************MULTI SETTING INSTRUCTIONS***********************
-----SY22-----
For those SY22 users who have been programming their MULTI settings
each time they play a DMCS score, and do not know that it can be done
automatically, below are steps you can do to set up at least 1 GENERIC
Multi-Setting on your SY22. When you are done all you will have to do is
load in your music score, select the Multi setting area you have assigned,
and sit back and listen to the music. From now on, you will never have to
manually set your instruments.
Step 1: Select from the MULTI MODE a setting (example: 2.6) to be your
automatic DMCS Area.
Step 2: Press EDIT/UTILITY, then under BANK press button 8 (Midi).
Step 3: Use the YES/NO keys to scroll through the information window
until you see PROGRAM CHANGE. If it reads INDIVIDUAL, you will
NOT want to do anything else.. press the Multi Mode button again
to exit. If the panel reads COMMON or OFF, then press the
CURSOR button to drop the cursor to the bottom word (off or
common), then press the YES/NO buttons until the word INDIVIDUAL
is seen. Again press the CURSOR button to move the cursor back
up to the top line. Now you may press the MUTLI-MODE button
(no need to save) and you are ready to use the new setting.
EXPLANATION OF WHAT YOU DID:
With Program Change set to anything but INDIVIDUAL, the channel for
the setting (such as 2.6) is locked in, and the voice presets
cannot change, even if directed to by DMCS. When set to
individual mode, all voice presets can change per the
instructions of DMCS or other sequencer. Multi setting 2.6
(if it has never been modified by you) is already set up
to play channels 1-8. (You may want to check out each voice
that currently occupies your chosen preset area, and make
sure each instrument is on a different channel.)
When using INDIVIDUAL, you never have to manually set your
synth to hear another DMCS midi score. You just have to
make sure the presets are correct for your synth's voices.
-----TG33-----
This information is included to setup your TG33 and allow it to
respond to program changes as directed by DMCS. The scores we have
written will now include presets for BOTH the TG33 and the SY22. Unless
a multi is set up as follows, the score will not play as intended. Make
sure your TG is set up to recieve program changes. Refer to your owners
manual (page 89 -MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE-) to make this adjustment.
1. Select a multi-bank to setup for DMCS scores. Preferably one
of the banks numbered 9 thru 16 (21-28) that are not factory
presets.
2. Press the EDIT button.
3. Press the number 1 button under the Bank/Multi Channel array.
4. By pressing one or the other of the PAGE buttons,
"MU VOICE NO CH 1" should appear followed by a P1,P2 or an I
and the name of the instrument currently programmed.
If an "off *********" appears you will need to do the following:
(otherwise move to step 5). To activate the channel, press the
+1/YES button. The P1,P2 or I with instrument name should now
be there.
5. At this point we are ONLY concerned with the P1,P2 setting. The
instrument that appears along with the P1,P2 is not important
for this setup as DMCS will instruct the TG which instrument will
be placed there.
6. Position the cursor under the P1,P2 or I in the window using the
cursor buttons.
7. Press the -1/NO or +1/YES button until a P2 appears.
8. Press the number 2 button under the Bank/Multi Channel array to
select channel 2 and repeat steps 4 thru 7 for channel 2. Repeat
steps 4 thru 7 for channels 3-8, then move to step 9.
9. That takes care of channels 1 thru 8. Now we will set channels
9-16. Repeat the steps outlined above with the exception that
when pressing the -1/NO or +1/YES you will need to make a P1
instead of P2 appear. Do this for channels 9-16.
10. After all channels have been set, press these buttons in the
following order... MULTI, STORE, right CURSOR and +1/YES. This
will store your settings in the Multi-Bank you have selected.
11. Some of our songs will also require access to the Internal
instrument bank and for that purpose you will need to set up
an additional Multi-Bank as outlined above with the exception
that CHANNELS 9-12 will access only the internal bank. Instead
of a P1 or P2 appearing (as in step 9) you will need the I to
appear in the window. When finished, follow step 10 and store
your new bank.
What you have done is setup a multi-bank that will allow program
changes sent from DMCS to select the correct TG33 instruments. Channels
1-8 will ONLY play instruments from Preset 2 while channels 9-16 will
only allow Preset 1 instruments to play. You will now longer need to
manually set up a multi-bank and plug in each instrument in order to
play our music.

We all thank you for your past support in our work, and welcome
comments and suggestions. HINT...HINT.... It would be VERY NICE if
SOMEONE would tell us if they liked what we do..... you know even
musicians like to be appreciated. Any kind word would be appreciated.
